PORT DICKSON: A preliminary survey conducted by Pakatan Harapan (PH) shows that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is in pole position to win the Port Dickson by-election.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said voters were looking at the fact that the next prime minister would be from Port Dickson.
"The sentiment looks good for PKR president-elect Anwar based on the turnout during the nomination process and a preliminary survey. The survey will be done again and should be able to give a bigger picture in the next few days," he told reporters at the PKR's operation centre, here today.
Among the other contenders are former Negri Sembilan mentri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, who will be contesting as an independent, and Lt Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar of PAS.
The four other independent candidates are Anwar's ex-aide Mohd Saful Bukhari Azlan, Stevie Chan Keng Leong, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen.
Fahmi said Pakatan is in the midst of working to get voters out to cast their ballots on polling day.
"About 30% of the voters live outside PD. We hope they will be back on polling day and exercise their right," he said.
Meanwhile, Fahmi has also given an early warning against disinformation or fake news involving Anwar going viral on social media.
"There have been such incidences in the past. So far these are non-specific to this by-election, but I am just giving a warning," he added.
Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, said Pakatan will also continue to monitor social media platforms to check fake news on Anwar.
Fahmi urged the public to contact them or check PH's official social media accounts if they receive any suspicious information.
The Port Dickson by-election is being held after its former MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah (PKR) resigned to make way for Anwar to return to Parliament.
In the May 9 general election, Danyal won with a 17,710 vote majority against Barisan Nasional's Datuk V. S. Mogan and PAS' Mahfuz Roslan.
