Toll abolition to be finalised within three months

KUALA LUMPUR: The abolition of tolls will be finalised in two to three months, Works Minister Baru Bian said today.
Negotiations between the ministry and the stakeholders are ongoing, said Baru, who is confident of arriving at a solution that is amenable to all parties.

"We are looking for a sensible solution that will be beneficial to all stakeholders and the new government," Baru said after officiating at an event at Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Lebuhraya EKVE today.
"I hope we can reach an agreement and achieve the best final outcome is accepted by all stakeholders.
"I have received some suggestions but not from all the stakeholders, but I am sure there will be a decision within two to three months."
He said all the stakeholders understand the current economic situation.
In the run-up to the 14th General Election on May 9, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said Pakatan Harapan (PH) would abolish tolls nationwide in stages, based on the concessionaires' contracts, if it won federal power.

Baru said the government could not have abolished the tolls in its first 100 days in office, as the coalition had originally promised, due to the economic situation.
