KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad (pix) expressed his disappointment over the amount in traffic and parking summonses collected by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
DBKL was expecting to collect RM100 million, but only RM2 million had been paid since the start of September, he told members of the media at the KL Car-free morning event at DBKL Square today.
"The total amount of outstanding compound summons payment is almost RM1 billion," he said, adding that his was despite offering discounts on the compounds.
"I am sorry to say that our offer (discount on summons payments) was not very successful."
As of Sept 3, a total of 4.5 million compound notices were issued by DBKL. It currently has a backlog of four million summonses that have not been settled.
The KL Car-Free morning will be held every first and third Sundays of the month from 7am to 9am. About 7km of major streets in Kuala Lumpur's golden triangle will be closed to cars for the public to walk, cycle and exercise from Dataran DBKL near Dataran Merdeka.
A total of 140 bicycles will also be provided free of charge to the public for use on KL Car-free mornings.
