Car broker in corruption probe released on bail
PUTRAJAYA: A car dealer with the title of 'Datuk' was released today after having been remanded for six days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the investigation into a case of corruption and abuse of power involving government projects worth millions of ringgit.
Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hasan of the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court ordered the 40-year-old man to be freed on a bail of RM50,000 and an oral assurance of RM150,000 with two sureties.
The MACC arrested the man at its headquarters here last Wednesday.
According to MACC sources, the man is believed to have been a proxy and runner for the money-laundering activities of contractor companies.
The case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
