Guan Eng: No cut in number of stations for MRT2

KUALA LUMPUR: There will not be any reduction in the number of stations for the underground segment of the Mass Rapid Transit Line 2 (MRT2) despite the retendering of unfinished underground work.
The MRT2 project, also known as the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line, has a total of 35 stations, comprising 24 elevated stations and 11 underground stations.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the government has shaved RM5.22 billion off the MRT2 total cost of RM57 billion by rationalising the above ground portion of the project.
"The RM5.22 billion savings represent 23% of the above ground portion of the cost. More savings will be gained when we retender out the underground segment soon and we will not be reducing the number of stations. Just from rationalising and implementing open tenders, we can expect more savings," he said during a luncheon address at the "Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2018" today.
Yesterday, Lim said in a statement that the unfinished underground work of MRT2 will be retendered via international open tender process.
