PORT DICKSON: Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (pix) has revealed that several of Malaysia's embassies abroad are in poor condition due to being neglected by the previous government.
He said he was informed of the matter upon taking office after Pakatan Harapan's (PH) victory at the May 9 polls.
"Our country's debt is not only felt within the country but outside too. Our offices are in sick condition," he said at a PH ceramah during the Port Dickson by-election campaigning, here, on Tuesday night.
"Some of our quarters, like in Jakarta, Indonesia, are leaking, for example. The one in France, the walls and staircase are also leaking so bad, even the person next door has lodged a complaint against us.
"The situation has come to that because (Barisan Nasional government) did not have enough money, all because the (former) Prime Minister stole it," he added.
Also present were PH Port Dickson candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, and Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
Saifuddin said while the current PH government was working hard to reduce the country's debt by some cost-cutting measures, it would look into ways to solve the issue.
"Unlike them (BN), we in Wisma Putra now want to save because we want to do our job as best as we can," he said.
Speaking of Anwar, Saifuddin said while the former has yet to be even elected an MP, and become the eighth prime minister later, should he win, many foreign ambassadors were already asking about him.
