Saiful: Use PD election as sign of protest against govt

PORT DICKSON: Voters in Port Dickson should use the by-election as a platform to send a strong message to Pakatan Harapan (PH) that they reject the government's actions and policies.
Independent candidate for the Port Dickson polls, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, said this was to ensure they do not make decisions at their whim without considering the people.
Saiful argued that the people had voted PH in thinking that they would enjoy a better life and economy, but that this had not been the case since the May 9 general election.
"To voters in Port Dickson, I plead to you to judge for yourself what PH has done until today. Your mandate to them is being ignored as though you do not have any dignity.
"True, the by-election result will not change the government. But it will provide pressure, and act as a clear signal to PH that their policies and conduct are rejected by the rakyat.
"It will make them afraid to act as they wish, and realise that if the rakyat can bring them to power, they can topple them too," he said in a statement today.
Saiful singled out the issue of the government terminating MMC-Gamuda's contract to build the underground portion of the MRT Line 2 (MRT2), claiming about 20,000 are bound to be affected by losing their jobs.
He said it was only ironic that this came at a time when millions of ringgit were being spent to "fulfil the desire of an individual wanting to be the prime minister" by calling for a by-election, while demanding that his opponent, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, state his stand on the matter.
"It's as if they don't even care about the 20,000 people losing their jobs. I want to ask Anwar, does he agree with this matter (terminating of contract)?," he asked.
