KUALA LUMPUR: The Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) for enforcement on khalwat will be improved by taking into account approaches that are in accordance with Islamic procedures, including to avoid causing embarrassment to victims.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the enforcement should follow certain procedures that were clearer to avoid errors, including aimed at victimising anyone.
"What we want to do is improve weaknesses. It is not like immediately conducting a raid after getting information. I am here to improve the SOP, the technicality.
"There are cases involving khalwat raids while the couples are husband and wife … it is embarrassing," he said when appearing as a guest at a "Dialogue", with the title "Rahmatan Lil A'lamin in Malaysia" at Universiti Malaya last night.
Mujahid said he did not have statistics on it, but here were many misuses, as well as complaints.
"There has to be discipline. Do not peep and embarrass other people. As much as you want to carry out with your duty, the power is with you to preserve it with all these basic discipline," the added.
Mujahid said the existing SOP was based on complaints but stressed that all raids should be carried out with solid evidence. — Bernama
