Bus driver dies, four injured in accident involving three heavy vehicles (Updated)

IPOH: An express bus driver was killed and four others were injured, while 30 passengers escaped unhurt, in an accident involving the bus and two heavy vehicles at the East-West Highway near Gerik here, early today.
The dead was Mohd Azizi Abdul Ghani, 37, while those injured were bus passengers, Izzarul Amira Nasir Putra, 28, and Nur Amalina Najwa Abdul Razak, 23, as well as lorry driver Mohd N'ain Halim, 43, and his son Muhammad Azahar, 17.
Head of State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Supt Ahmad Adnan Basri said the mishap occurred when the bus heading to Kelantan collided head-on with a lorry carrying sawdust, after taking over a trailer lorry laden with iron loop wires.
"The impact of the collision claimed the life of the bus driver on the spot, while causing injury to the two female passengers. Twenty-eight other passengers of the bus escaped unhurt.
"The driver and co-driver of the trailer lorry were also unhurt," he said in a statement, here today.
The body was taken to Gerik Hospital for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received the distress call about the accident at 12.49am. — Bernama
