KUALA LUMPUR: A panel of experts from the European Union (EU) Commission will be coming to Malaysia next week, for the first time, to asses the local palm oil industry as well as to engage with stakeholders.
Ambassador and Head of EU to Malaysia, Maria Castillo Fernandez said the delegation is expected to be here next week and will pay visit to palm oil estates.
The delegation will comprise four members who are legislators.
“This is a way to engage with Malaysia to hear the concerns. They have to come here, see the plantations and speak to the people very much to hear their concerns,” she said at the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia 2018.
Fernandez said the delegates will engage with the Malaysian Palm Oil Council, businesses and non-government organisations.
Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok, who was also present at the event, has also welcomed the visit of the panel.
On another note, Kok said the Cabinet is "looking into" the foreign labour shortage issue raised by industry players.
“I think the Cabinet under the Human Resources Ministry has formed a task force to study the whole labour problem in Malaysia,” she added.
The report is expected to be ready by the end of the year.
