KANGAR: Police have arrested a retired soldier for having a home-made shotgun at his house in Kampung Guar Sanji, Arau, 10km from here, on Monday.
State police chief SAC Noor Mushar Mohd said the 41-year-old man was detained in the first such case in Perlis under Op Cantas at 11pm.
"The gun components were wrapped in a red batik cloth and hidden behind the headboard of a bed in a bedroom in the house," he told a press conference held at the Perlis Police Contingent Headquarters here, today.
He said the suspect admitted that he bought the gun for RM800 from a labourer in Kodiang, Kedah in 2014.
Noor Mushar said the police arrested the labourer at his home in Kampung Kandis, Kodiang, Kedah on the same day the first suspect was arrested.
He said the 51-year-old labourer had sold 20 home-made shotguns since venturing into the activity in 2014.
"Urine tests on the suspects found the retired soldier positive on Methaphetamine and had a record involving drugs," he added. — Bernama
