KUALA LUMPUR: Anti-narcotics police nabbed 68 youths including underaged students who were engaged in private drug-charged parties at three condominiums here over the weekend.
Over half of the 50 male and 18 female suspects who are aged between 16 and 35 tested positive for methamphetamines, ganja and ketamine.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said youths are avoiding the authorities by moving away from nightspots and seeking entertainment at drug-charged private parties often held at condominiums.
He said among those held were three men and two women from public and private higher learning institutes.
He said there were also four underaged boys who were held in the raids.
Mazlan said on Saturday at 3.30am, Dang Wangi police raided a condominium unit at Jalan Cendana where 14 people were held.
He said the following day at 1.30am, Brickfields police conducted similar raids at three units at a condominium on Jalan Abdullah Hukum before arresting 41 youths.
Mazlan said two hours later, in another operation by Dang Wangi police at a condominium on Jalan Sultan Ismail here, 13 youths were held and small amounts of ganja and Ecstasy pills were seized.
He said those held were remanded for five days for further investigations.
"We managed to clamp down on drug abuse and immoral activities with these raids. Police will also take stern action on the owners of the apartments and the organisers of such wild parties. We will continue to conduct these raids to ensure the drug abuse menace in the city is addressed." he said.
Mazlan also urged the public to tip-off police of such activities by contacting the city's anti-narcotics police at 03-21460708 or the city police' operations room at 03-21460584.
