Govt forging cooperation with other countries to sponsor Malaysian students overseas

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry is forging cooperation with several countries in an effort to get foreign quarters to sponsor Malaysian students to pursue studies in certain fields overseas.
Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching (pix) said the move was made in view of the country's financial constraints to sponsor its students for further studies, where the ministry could not just rely on the RM250 million allocation set aside by the government.
"During a working visit by the Education Minister (Dr Maszlee Malik) to China, we managed to get sponsorship from several companies there for our students to go for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
"We also get sponsorships from the United Kingdom, Turkey and Japan. I have also met representatives from the Ukraine government and they expressed their intention to sponsor our students to pursue studies in aerospace and maritime in their country," she said during the oral question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Teo said this in response to a supplementary question from Sabri Azit (PAS-Jerai) on measures taken by the government to help obtain sponsorships for students pursuing studies now that the MyBrain programme had been suspended.
