Parliamentary Services Act to be revived

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will revive the Parliamentary Services Act 1963 (PSA) as part of its 11th Malaysia Plan which is geared towards focusing on good governance and institutional reforms.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) announced that measures will be implemented to institutionalise the select committee system in the Dewan Rakyat as well as the Dewan Negara.
"The select committees will be empowered to appoint leaders in key positions in the MACC, EC, National Audit Department and the Judicial Appointments Commission," he said when tabling the government's mid-term review of the 11th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat, here, today.
He added that the MACC and the Election Commission will solely be answerable to Parliament.
He also announced that for positions of the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Mentri Besar will be capped to a maximum of two terms in their respective positions.
"They also shall not hold any other portfolio in government," he said.
Mahathir tabled the mid-term review of the 11MP, which is the blueprint of the national economy that determines the country's direction between 2016 and 2020.
The 11MP has six pillars which include reforming governance to enhance transparency and efficiency of public services, strengthen the inclusive well-being of the people and to strengthen economic growth among others.
The midterm review not only measures the progress of the previous Barisan Nasional government but it will also provide the plan for Pakatan Harapan's leadership in the next three years.
