BATU PAHAT: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar (pix) reminded graduates not to be slack or arrogant with the degree they obtained, and there are no shortcuts to success.
His Highness, who is also the Chancellor of University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), said although a person had a degree, it would have no value if they failed to find employment and graduates should start from below by seeking experience.
Sultan Ibrahim said, seeking experience, improving skills and acquiring knowledge is essential for graduates to become successful one day.
"At the same time, I would like to remind you not to be overbearing with the degree to the extent that you become choosy, unemployed and continue troubling your parents," he said during the first session of UTHM's 18th Convocation Ceremony at Parit Raja, here today.
Also, present was the Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim who is also the UTHM Pro-Chancellor.
Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian, State Islamic Affairs and Education Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan and State Youth, Sports and Culture Committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar.
Sultan Ibrahim advised that while working, every graduate must look after the good name and reputation of their alma mater and be determined to become excellent workers.
"Every graduate also should carry out their duties with responsibility, diligence, honesty and trust," he said.
The Sultan also reminded graduates to never forget the kindness and sacrifices of their parents.
"Repay them (parents) by caring for them with unconditional love," he said.
