GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is demanding for a thorough explanation from the project consultant on why major causes of water flow from a stream nearby the landslide site in Bukit Kukus was not given attention.
Mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said he noticed that the stream on top of the hill slope was blocked without any proper diversion during his visit to the site on Saturday morning.
He was puzzled as to why no attention was given to this before and hoped the contractor and consultant could shed light on the matter.
"This main issue must be looked into and an explanation must be given on this," he told reporters when met at the site in Paya Terubong today.
Yew said the council had already initiated its own internal inquiry on the incident and was cooperating with police and also Board of Engineers on the matter.
"The main aim now is to recover any other remaining bodies and pledge to take action on the parties found to be negligent," he said, adding that the council would not point fingers at anyone before investigations are completed.
