KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) and Rafizi Ramli who are vying for PKR's deputy president's post are still neck and neck, signalling a fight which could go down to the wire in what has been a roller coaster of an election for the reformist party.
Azmin, however, solidified his lead in Selangor in the second phase of the election in Selangor yesterday, involving seven divisions, namely Puchong, Gombak, Petaling Jaya (PJ) Utara, PJ Selatan, Kuala Langat, Klang and Selayang.
According to the election's official website www.pemilihankeadilan2018.com, Azmin, who is also Economic Affairs Minister, obtained 4,978 votes while Rafizi got 4,385.
This took the total number of votes obtained by Azmin so far in Selangor to 14,315 votes while Rafizi, who is also PKR vice-president, has garnered 12,948 votes.
Selangor has the most number of registered members eligible to vote with 249,850 people.
The final phase of the polls in Selangor involves six more divisions from a total of 22 in the state, to be held on Oct 28. They are Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor, Ampang, Pandan, Shah Alam and Hulu Langat.
Meanwhile, in PERLIS, Rafizi holds slight edge over Mohamed Azmin, gaining 400 votes over Mohamed Azmin's 334.
The voter turnout in the state was disappointing with less than 20% of the registered 5,490 showing up.
In yesterday's polls in NEGRI SEMBILAN, Rafizi dominated the state albeit with a slim margin, winning in the five out of eight divisions, namely Rembau, Seremban, Rasah, Tampin and Jelebu.
Based on the official results released at 6.30pm yesterday, Rafizi received a total of 3,053 votes in the state, while Azmin polled 2,962.
The former Selangor mentri besar won in the divisions of Kuala Pilah, Telok Kemang and Jempol.
Rafizi had previously managed to win the contests in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Federal Territories, while Azmin dominated Penang, Johor and the first phase in Selangor. — Bernama
