SEREMBAN: The Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) warned property owners in the municipality that legal action would be taken against those who continue to ignore its warning to pay arrears in assessment rate and compound fines.
Its president, Datuk Zazali Salehudin said the compound fines were not confined to traffic and parking offences, but also for the renovation of the building without approval, unkempt houses, putting up advertisements without a permit, keeping dogs without a licence, operating massage parlours without permit and hawking without a permit.
He said they would be given until this Nov 30 to settle the arrears, failing which action would be taken, including to seal their property, following which it would be auctioned off.
"Currently, the highest arrears is for assessment rate which has amounted to RM34.88 million, followed by traffic compound, which has exceeded RM30 million," he said, in a statement here today.
He said this year alone, 325 cases had been filed in court for traffic offences and another 180 cases involving other offences.
As for traffic compounds, he said MPS was offering 50% discount for those who made payments before Dec 31. — Bernama
