iCGPA self-indulgent system: Teo Nie Ching

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching today lambasted former Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh who defended the Integrated Cumulative Grade Point Average assessment system for public universities.
Teo said the Besut MP was delusional when he said the iCGPA system was good while many of the public universities were no longer using it.
"You came up with the system, you praised it yourself, saying it is very good ... that is what we call delusional," she said at the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Earlier, Idris (BN-Besut) urged the government to consider retaining the iCGPA, an integrated grading system first implemented in 2016, to assess and record the students' academic performance and professional skills obtained during their time in the university.
Teo said 14 public universities had stopped using the iCGPA while two others rebranded and retained it, and another two are still waiting for their Senate to decide on the matter.
However, she said, the universities were still using their own Outcome-Based Education (OBE) assessment systems on the students.
"This includes the My Academic Integrated System at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Learning Outcome Report & Analysis at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Indeks Hebat by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)," she said.
Replying to a question from Datuk Rasol Wahid (BN-Hulu Terengganu), Teo said the ministry is keeping to its decision on July 18 to cancel the subscriptions of Utusan Malaysia and Mingguan Malaysia for all schools and tertiary institutions. — Bernama
