MCA leaving BN is for AGM to decide: Wee Ka Siong

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong says the party should leave it to the delegates to its annual general meeting (AGM) in early December to decide whether it should leave Barisan Nasional (BN).
The Ayer Hitm MP, MCA's sole representative in Parliament, said as a person who believes strongly in the wishes of the majority in the party, he would go with the decision should the delegates decide at the Dec 2 AGM that MCA must leave BN, Oriental Daily News reported today.
Days ago, Gan Ping Sieu, Wee main competitor for the president's post in the party polls scheduled for Nov 4, said he would pull MCA out of BN immediately if his team wins the presidential election.
On accusations that he is after position as indicated by his acceptance of the transport minister portfolio in the Opposition's shadow cabinet, Wee said even if MCA withdraws from BN, the fact remains that it is still an opposition party.
Without naming name, he urged the detractor not to level accusations at him for the sake of winning the presidential contest.
He said in the Hansard, he is an MP who won in the 14th General Election under the BN banner, the same way that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is an MP who won the polls under the PKR ticket.
He said MCA, though still a BN component parties, has not been attending BN meetings.
In fact, BN now hardly hold any meetings, he added.
Wee, who has teamed up with Perak MCA chief Datuk Dr Mah Han Soon, in the upcoming party polls, stressed that he does not "say one thing and do another", an apparently dig at Gan's running mate Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, who caused some brouhaha for accepting the appointment as a Johor state exco member after the GE13 even though the party's presidential council decided prior to the polls that it would not accept state or federal posts if the party did not do better than it did in GE12.
