PKR disciplinary committee in denial over issues facing party election: Zuraida

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR's disciplinary committee's denial on issues of money politics plaguing its party elections is echoing the mistakes of Barisan Nasional (BN), according to the party's incumbent women's chief Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Zuraida, who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister, was referring to the party's Appeal and Disciplinary Committee chairperson Dr Syed Husin Ali's statement that no disciplinary action can be taken on this issue unless a formal report is lodged.
"This sounds like the BN government when you have to wait for a report to take action when it's obvious," she said in a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.
She urged the disciplinary committee to be more more active in weeding out and punishing any wrongdoings.
"If there are irregularities you have to be proactive. You have to be responsible for the election," she said.
She stressed that issues, such as missing votes and money politics, could not be swept under the carpet anymore. Zuraida believes the committee is in denial as they aren't addressing any of these blatant wrongdoings.
"Until you sit down and counter the complaints and get to the bottom of it only then are they serious. Otherwise they are in denial," she said.
On Sunday, police confirmed that a device found on a table at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium during the Kuala Selangor PKR division election was a signal jammer used to block telecommunications signals.
This led to the the Kuala Selangor PKR division election being postponed to a later date.
Zuraida also said that she would not be surprised if the same modus operandi had been used in previous polls.
Last week the polls in several divisions in Malacca and Negri Sembilan were cancelled due to weak internet service that had persisted throughout the day.
"So it's a clear sabotage and it's very serious as the party election is very critical now," Zuraida said.
"Therefore the party has to take stock of this. They cannot be in denial. Apart from the missing votes, there is the management of election process, corruption and the latest in the jammer."
She called for a review of all the elections and is worried that the same thing will occur in the Sabah and Sarawak polls, scheduled for next week.
Meanwhile, Zuraida said that Pakatan Harapan's top brass will hold a meeting this Saturday to discuss the issue of Umno MP's joining up with the PH alliance.
"Yes, we will deliberate on the matter this coming Saturday," she added.
