Police begin investigation on Perlis MP accused of sexual assault (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Police have initiated an investigation against an MP from Perlis after a teenager accused him of sexual assault.
The matter came to light following Malaysian Crime Watch (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan's claims that the politician had allegedly threatened the 15-year-old girl that unless she retracted her police report on the incident, there would be grave repercussions against her and her family.
Perlis police chief SAC Noor Mushar Mohd, when contacted by theSun, confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway and that police will continue to investigate the matter even though the girl has retracted her report.
It is learnt that the complainant retracted the report on the same day it was made, Oct 20.
"We are actually waiting to hear from the deputy public prosecutor on whether or not this case can proceed for prosecution," he added.
Meanwhile, Sanjeevan on Twitter alleged that several quarters are attempting to cover up the alleged molestation case.
Sanjeevan also expressed befuddlement as to why the politician has yet to be arrested, despite a police report having been made against him. He hoped that no one was trying to cover up the incident just because the suspect is a politician.
