Khalid: No promises made to display KLCP 2020

PETALING JAYA: There were no promises to put up the draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 (KLCP 2020) on public display before it was gazetted, according to Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.
He said he had met civil society organisation Save Kuala Lumpur several times but had never promised that he would make the plan public.
"I have to explain that they did come to the Federal Territories Office, and I met them. They requested that before any plan is gazetted, there should be a public display so that they can give their comments and input.
"I said I would take into consideration their request. I never made a promise," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
He said KLCP 2020, which was gazetted on Tuesday, was different as some parts within it have been implemented.
Khalid said only plans that have not yet been implemented should be put on display, such as those for 2040, which will be made public next year.
"For example, when we want to gazette the 2040 plan, we will display it first because it is a draft plan, where nothing has been implemented. But in this case, I gazetted something that has taken place, because it is a 2015 plan, something from the past," the minister said.
The previous Barisan Nasional administration did not gazette the draft KLCP 2020, which was launched in 2008 and finalised in 2012.
On the call by Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate offences that took place in Kuala Lumpur as listed in the gazette, Khalid said MACC was free to investigate any matter regarding the gazette.
He said he and other lawmakers have been told that the offences took place from 2015 till this year.
