KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will continue with its Study Loan Scheme for students who lack the means to pursue their studies abroad.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, Mara received an allocation of RM2 billion to finance 65,000 students locally and abroad for this year.
"The ministry through Mara is always focused on producing professional and competent graduates and prioritising study loan facilities for students belonging to the B40 (low-income) group," the ministry said in a written reply to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) who wanted to know whether the ministry was still continuing with the Mara study loan scheme.
The written reply was circulated at the Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday.
The ministry said that there were requirements that had to be met in the loan application – the applicant must be from the B40 group, attain excellent SPM results (achieving 8As) for the current year, and an outstanding student of a Mara Educational Institution (IPMa). — Bernama
