KUALA LUMPUR: The government has allocated RM286.8 million for operating expenses of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) which is an 18.5% increase from RM242.1 million which was allocated by the Barisan Nasional government last year.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said there would be an additional of 100 people to be hired next year to ensure MACC has sufficient manpower to handle corruption and money laundering in the civil and private sector.
This would also include efforts in recovering the monies involved.
Meanwhile, Lim also recorded the government's appreciation to the Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue Department, Customs Department and the police in preserving the security and national peace.
"As a token of appreciation, there will be a special payment of RM500 to civil servants who are employed under grade 54 and below and RM250 is to be given to civil retirees. Unlike the previous government which made the payments usually at the end of the year, this payment will be made by the end of 2018," Lim said.
This will total to RM1 billion.
