RedBox, Shopee partner to bring services to East Malaysia

SEPANG: AirAsia's logistics and delivery arm, RedBox, has become logistics partners with Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
In the agreement signed by both parties, RedBox will assume cross-border logistics services for Shopee.
It will start in East Malaysia and will see Shopee deliver its online goods from Shenzhen to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
Shopee's regional managing director Ian Ho said this partnership is in line with the company's growth.
"With over 12 million app downloads in Southeast Asia alone, Shopee sees RedBox as an integral part of our business with their extensive network between East Malaysia and China and their full suite logistics services," he said.
He said the partnership makes sense because it's low cost, it gets goods delivered in a shorter time and it ensures speedy delivery.
"For now we will start with East Malaysia but eventually we will expand our partnership to Peninsular Malaysia," he said at the launch of the partnership at AirAsia's RedQ headquarters here yesterday.
AirAsia group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said this partnership "makes sense" because couriers are dated.
"Courier companies are cumbersome and old-fashioned. We want to make moving goods easier at RedBox, we also want to deliver it quicker," he said.
He said the Asean region has an amazing potential for the e-commerce market and RedBox providing the logistics will make it easier for cross-border e-commerce.
