Eatery owners up in arms over smoking ban

PETALING JAYA: Eatery owners are unhappy with the smoking ban at their premises which will take effect on Jan 1.
The Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors General Association said it was not consulted over the ban.
It would cause loss of customers and potential fines from not being able to stop smokers from lighting up and complicate their operations during busy hours, the association said.
The recent statement that smokers can smoke 10 feet away from shops also does not make sense in Malaysian towns and cities, it added.
Over 100 of the association's representatives will hold a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Monday to voice their concerns and the business impacts of the ban.
