THE year of 2018 has proven to be a monumental one for homegrown fashion label MAGlifestyle.

After a series of presentation at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week in August and New York City Live Fashion Week in September, the brand recently wrapped up yet another at Busan Fashion Week by showcasing its Spring/ Summer 2019 Composition collection.

Spearheaded by designers and sisters Yen Lee and Shiau Lee, MAGlifestyle S/S ‘19 collection is inspired by Russian painter – Wassily Kandinsky and specifically his distinct artworks “Composition” were seen as an unapologetic declaration of his abstract yet artistic ideas.

Yen declared: “We love art and we love artists.”

S/S ’19 collection is simplistic yet beautifully structured in shape; unique pieces with modernity and classic style stand out among the splendour of colours used to express Kandinsky’s organic and geometrical culmination.

Similarly, ruffles and abstract prints with tactile fabrics like the diaphanous tulle, cotton, linen and shimmering sequins are occasionally mixed together to give the perception of texture seen on his paintings.

As such the play of push-pull shapes on textures, contrasts, unproportionate volumes, sculptural and dramatic silhouettes are subtly harmonised with this season’s colour palette – various hues of violet against canary yellow, mixed with navy blue, green and chalk blue.

MAGlifestyle managed to successfully translate Kandinsky’s expressive and abstract art into timeless and strong statement pieces with a unique appeal.
