SHAH ALAM: Newly elected PKR Wanita Chief Haniza Talha (pix) said the party’s women’s wing represents the collective voice of Malaysian women

“We are the real voice of Malaysian women, all our struggles are for the women in this country.

“We were taught to never bow down and retreat. In fact, we will speak louder if the well-being and rights of women in this country remains challenged,“ she said in her speech at the 13th PKR National Congress at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam.

She stressed that the party’s women’s wing would continue to speak out on issues affecting Malaysian women.

“From the exploitation of Penan women, child marriages, domestic violence, women’s involvement in economic development and many more, the voice of our wing is the most vocal,“ she said.

“With the issue of child marriage. When it comes to the leadership of the wings, we were the first to respond and pressured the government to take action accordingly.

“In 2008, we were the first political party in the country to call for a 30% quota of women as decision makers.

“It is a landmark call in Malaysian politics because there are no parties that are brave enough to bring forward this motion to the public,“ she added.

Haniza said that although the 30% target has not been achieved yet, there has been significant improvement in ensuring that women in this country are not left behind.
