BUTTERWORTH: The 38-year-old man, who jumped off the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam bridge on Wednesday, has been found by fishermen about 8.40am this morning (Oct 28).
The deceased, Mohd Shukri, had been found floating with construction bricks tied to his limbs about a nautical mile away from where he jumped, closed to Batu Maung near the Island after a two-day search.
According to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) operations commander PBK II Mazli A Mutalib, fishermen had spotted him floating on the surface of the water and notified the police.
Mazli said Mohd Shukri was brought to the Batu Musang Jetty in Batu Kawan by MMEA enforcers before being sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for a post-mortem.
"The rescue team wasted no time in mounting an aerial and water search after Mohd Shukri was reported to have jumped off the bridge Wednesday morning," he told reporters.
It is reported that the deceased had left his motorcycle on KM11.2 of the bridge heading to Batu Maung, and leap from the ledge.
It is learnt the deceased was supposed to attend at the Butterworth Sessions Court that morning, as the Customs Department had required him to be in court to be charged for offences related to the sale of contraband cigarettes.
The deceased left a note on his bike before jumping off, stating his MyKad number and other personal details.
