Penang will never implement water rationing: Guan Eng

NIBONG TEBAL: Penang will not conduct any water rationing exercise although some areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling as well as Hulu Langat are experiencing temporary water interruption.
Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng said the Air Itam Dam was more than 90% full while the Teluk Bahang Dam was at about 67% capacity during the current rainy season.
"Due to our efficient water management and planning, the state will not impose water rationing," he said when attending the state deputy chief minister P. Ramsamy's Deepavali Open House at Jalan Residensi Villa Mutiara 4, Bandar Tasek Mutiara here today.
Lim said the state government had been "tough" on the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) management to ensure that water rationing will never be implemented in Penang.
"We will 'chop' off those PBAPP management level officers if water rationing happens in Penang," he stressed.
PBAPP last introduced water tariff hikes in April last year for band two onwards for water consumption of more than 20,000 litres per month.
Despite the increase in tariff, Penang's average domestic tariff for the first 35,000 litres of water consumed per month will be RM0.32 per 1,000 litres.
