SEBERANG PRAI: Consumers and traders are unhappy with the increase in fuel prices as many claim it will burden those in the middle and low income groups.
Muhammad Aminuralif Mohd Zoki, 26, a creative executive with a publishing company said the hike in fuel price will trigger the prices of other daily essentials to go up.
"We have seen it before and we are going to see it again," he told theSun.
Although he is not blaming the government fully for the hike, he said, it looks like people need to look for additional income to make ends meet..
Vinod Michael, 38, on the other hand said it would be less savings and more forking out of money to pay for fuel, depending on the vehicle one is driving.
He hoped the government would improve public transportation so that people have an option to choose.
Meanwhile grocery trader, Lim Chew Wai, 40, said although there is no significant increase in any products, it may happen in the long run if fuel prices keep increasing.
"It's a known fact that when the fuel price increases, there is a chain of reactions including the price of food and daily necessities going up," he added.
Today, the retail price of RON95, RON97 and diesel increased by 15 sen per litre .
The new retail price for RON95 is RM1.95 per litre and for RON97 is RM2.30 per litre. The new retail price for diesel is RM1.90 per litre.
