KUALA LUMPUR: MCA hopes to get the nod from its central committee to pass and adopt the proposed amendments to the party constitution for its upcoming Annual General Meeting this weekend.
Party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pix) said that some of the proposed amendments are meant to change the party's election mechanism for the party central leadership.
"In the past, the central leadership is elected by some 2,400 central delegates but once amended, the central leadership will be elected by some 33,000 divisional delegates.
"It is a more democratic process and a way forward for MCA which is transforming to become more relevant to the existing needs," Liow told reporters after chairing the party's central committee meeting today.
Liow added that these amendments would also allow the party to show the public that MCA is changing to meet the vision of the community.
On the upcoming AGM. he said, the party will review the outcome of the transformation plan which it had been doing the past years, from political to restructuring transformations and MCA's relationship with other parties.
"While revealing the outcome of the transformation plan, we will also look into our preparedness for the 14th General Election," he said, adding that the party will get the commitment of the delegates for the GE14 to ensure BN's victory.
Liow stressed that this weekend's AGM will make an impact for the betterment of the party in the long run.
He also said that MCA will ensure that all Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and China would be implemented smoothly to further propel the nation's economy growth. ‎
