THE Lego brand has since the beginning been associated with creativity and innovation. In more recent years, the brand has developed and advanced in the area of entertainment, reflected in its expansion of its toy line as well as its creation of the Legoland theme park in Malaysia.
Legoland arrived on Malaysian shores in 2012. The theme park has since grown in leaps and bounds, attractions and accolades included, both local and foreign. Recently, Legoland Malaysia launched its latest addition, the Lego Ninjago The Ride.
THE GAME AND RIDE
The ride offers a 4D ride in the dark, inspired by one of the popular Lego toy lines and television series called Ninjago. During the ride, guests will be allowed to take on their favourite Ninjago characters to defeat their “enemies” by using hand gestures that represent throwing elemental attacks like fireballs, ice and lightning. Players will also be assisting other main characters, as in the Ninjago series, to defeat the main enemy which is The Great Devourer.
The use of hand gesture technology allows players to become fully immersed in the game and ride, which is further enhanced by the use of 3D effects like smoke and wind. Fun-filled, thrilling and exciting are just some of the joys that this ride brings to both parents and their children.
According to Legoland Malaysia, this ride is the largest addition to the theme park. It costs an investment of over RM40million and with assistance of Triotech, a global company dealing in media based interactive attractions, it took about five months to install the ride.
PUSHING BOUNDARIES
During the launch of the ride, Legoland Malaysia interim general manager Young Pil Kim said that Legoland Malaysia was proud to be the first to offer the ride in Asia.
“The Lego brand inspires people to grow through play and it is this commitment that breathes life into the attractions we have at Legoland. We’ve taken a few steps in the right direction here, as Lego Ninjago The Ride takes immersion and play to a whole other level. This ride is a little special because of the large investment that went with it, but it should point to our commitment to bring state-of-the-art play to the region, the way only Legoland can,” Young said.
He added that the ride is a game changer to Legoland as it redefines the definition of a theme park and is testament to their commitment to become better than what it was. Young also stated that it is the commitment of constantly outperforming themselves that earns Legoland the many accolades it received from both Malaysia and other countries, some of which include being ranked No. 1 earning the Trip Advisor Traveler Choice Award 2016 in the family hotel category.
CONTRIBUTION TO MALAYSIA
Addressing the crowd at the launch was Tourism Malaysia director general Datuk Sri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab. He expressed his pride, of Legoland Malaysia’s achievements and how it has consistently lived up to the excitement and expectation of its visitors.
“As it stands today, Legoland Malaysia is one of the major tourist attractions for Malaysia, earning the Best Tourist Attraction Award in the man-made attraction category at the prestigious Malaysia TourismAwards for the year of 2014/2015. The arrival of LegolandMalaysia has also placed Johor on the global tourismmap,” he said.
The minister also shared how the theme park has made Johor a strong regional tourist destination for international travellers, which was one of the reasons for the increase in tourism in the state. He also said that Tourism Malaysia and Legoland had a fruitful partnership in enhancing tourism in Malaysia and hoped to see more exciting projects in the pipeline. Lego Ninjago-The Ride was open to the public from Nov 4. For more information, please visit the Legoland Malaysia website or its Facebook page.
