KOTA TINGGI: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) yesterday handed over education tithe amounting to RM129,500 to 259 asnaf (eligible to receive tithe) students from 17 schools in the district.
TH deputy chief executive officer Datuk Badlisyah Abdul Ghani said the corporate social responsibility initiative was aimed at helping alleviate the financial burden of the underprivileged students.
"This shows TH's concern for those students which is also in line with the government's efforts to develop the Muslim community in the country. We hope the donation will motivate and encourage the students to continue to excel.
"We view education as an important asset in bringing an individual, a community or a country to a higher level," he said at the Johor state-level Iqra' contribution programme 2016 at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim here yesterday.
The students from 11 primary schools and six secondary schools received school supplies worth RM200 and RM300 in cash each.
According to Badlisyah, for this year, TH targeted to distribute education tithe totalling RM2 million to 4,000 underprivileged students from 178 schools across the country. — Bernama
