KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened lower today on profit-taking in most heavyweight counters, dealers said.
At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 17.30 points to 1,635.44 from Thursday's close of 1,652.74.

The index opened 6.00 points easier at 1,646.74.

A dealer said the local market was expected to remain cautious ahead of the release of the third quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) numbers later this morning.

He said the local share prices succumbed to profit-taking as investors also looked to square off their positions ahead of the weekend despite the uptrend on Wall Street.

"Meanwhile, Asian bourses were mixed as US bond yields increased on reaction to the possible effects of US presidential election winner Donald Trump's policy on inflation," the dealer said.

Alliance DBS Research expects the FBM KLCI to trade above the 1,664.27 level.
