GEORGE TOWN: The state needs more financial allocation from the federal government to proceed with five flood mitigation projects, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix).
In a press statement, Lim said of the total RM997 million requested for the five projects, the federal government has only approved the Sungai Pinang flood mitigation project.
He also ticked off the federal authorities for only allocating RM150 million for the Sungai Pinang project, adding that the project amount should be RM350 million.
The other flood mitigation projects are in Sungai Juru, Sungai Perai, Bayan Lepas and Lembangan Sungai Jawi.
Lim said the rainfall of 300mm in the last three days resulted in floods in low-lying areas in Jalan P. Ramlee, Sungai Pinang and Air Itam.
"Some places which did not flood previously have now been flooded as well," he said in the statement.
