WANG KELIAN: The Perlis Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) seized almost 100kg of various types of cooking oil which were in the midst of being smuggled via the borders through the Wang Kelian Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex (ICQ) Complex since last Friday.
Wang Kelian Customs station head, Muhammad Azwan Mohd Radi said there were people still attempting to smuggle out cooking oil at the Malaysia-Thailand border although this was prohibited since Nov 1.
"With stringent control at the border gates since Friday, the Perlis JKDM seized seven bottles of cooking oil weighing 5kg, and 50 1kg packets of cooking oil, estimated to cost about RM200.
"These were seized from individuals who did not intend to smuggle, but were for their own use at home or they operated eating outlets in the neighbouring country," he told reporters after accompanying Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim on a visit to the Wang Kelian ICQ Complex here today. — Bernama
