SHAH ALAM: Four more traders are set to be charged with hoarding subsidised cooking oil this week, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh.
He said this was in addition to the eight that have been charged since the announcement by the government in October that bottled cooking oil subsidies would be removed effective this month.
"To date, we have made 44 arrests since the announcement was made, eight of which have been charged in court.
"Four more are set to be charged throughout this week, and this is a huge figure," he told reporters after officiating the 'MyData SSM Portal' here, today.
Jamil said the four new cases were reported in Kelantan (2), Selangor and Sarawak, while the eight previously were in Selangor (3), Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.
Jamil also acknowledged that aside from the hoarding in part by traders, the purchasing of subsidised 1kg polybag cooking oil in bulk have also caused insufficiency in stores.
He however assured that a ministry-level meeting to discuss on a mechanism to address the issue would be conducted soon.
Meanwhile, Jamil explained that the MyData SSM, which is under the purview of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), would deliver real-time information of companies and businesses for end users with a payment of RM15 for each data record obtained.
"With this portal, it will expedite the process of looking for real time registry data and gain accurate insights on business financial standing.
"As of now, we have close to eight million companies and businesses registered under SSM, so all the information you need can be found in MyData SSM," he said.
