Villagers urge authorities to speed up Jln Ujong Batu remedial work

BALIK PULAU: Villagers in Teluk Bahang are urging the authorities to speed up remedial work at Jalan Ujong Batu so they can resume  their daily lives.
Villager Shahul Hamid, 48, said since the road was closed on Nov 7, access to the city centre has been difficult for him.
"Its has been difficult since last week. Since the road was closed, I am having difficulties getting groceries for my family", he told theSun
Shahul who works as a hawker said local and foreigners visiting the fishing village has also reduced due to the closure of the road.
"My  income since last week has dwindled by more than 50 %", said Shahul who has been living at the village for more than 10 years.
Another villager who sells traditional kuih at the village, Noor Farizah Mohd Isa, 40 expressed similar views as Shahul and lamented that she has to go as far as Balik Pulau to reach the city centre to get her daily supply for her business.
She said the closure of the road has made the lives of people living in Teluk Bahang cut off from the rest of the world although the closure was done for the safety of the public.
"I hope the authorities can expedite the repair work as soon as possible", said the single mother of six.
On Nov 7, the main road connecting the Teluk Bahang and Batu Feringghi were closed following a landslide caused by heavy downpour and the road partly collapsed.
The landslide was caused by a heavy downpour early in the morning and after it was declare unsafe to use by state Public Work Department (JKR) the road was close to the public.
