KUALA LUMPUR: In less than a week after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested a managing director of a government-linked company (GLC) for corruption involving millions of ringgit, a 50-year-old former chief executive officer (CEO), also of a GLC, was detained yesterday for taking bribes.
Sources said the man was arrested at his house in Shah Alam at about 12.30pm yesterday and taken to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya for investigations.
It is learnt that the MACC has frozen almost RM40 million found in the bank accounts of the suspect and his close family members.
Sources said that the cash is believed to be kickbacks the suspect had received from companies he had awarded work contracts worth about RM50 million when he held the position of CEO in a GLC between 2010 and 2015.
The suspect who is expected to be remanded today resigned from the company last year after being offered the post of director in another GLC he currently serves.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Azam Baki when contacted yesterday confirmed the case but declined to elaborate.
On Thursday, a 56-year-old managing director of a construction company was arrested by the MACC in Seremban for power abuse and bribery involving millions of ringgit.
The MACC froze RM2.5 million in several bank accounts of the suspect, his wife and children and learnt that they owned nine properties in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Negri Sembilan — all of which were paid for in cash.
The suspect had also dismissed 20 of his subordinates who had refused to be in cahoots with his crooked ways since he assumed the senior post in the GLC in 2010.
