NGO's urge MACC to investigate Splash deal

SHAH ALAM: A group of NGO's have called on the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission to investigate the purchase of Selangor's water assets from Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (Splash) by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pix).
Pertubuhan Suara Rakyat Marhaen, Batas Malaysia and Gapenas Selangor jointly lodged the report at the Selangor MACC headquarters today.
Suara's advisor Zamil Ibrahim said they want a clarification about conflicting accounts of the water assets from Azmin and his predecessor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
"This is the rakyat's money we are talking about, thousands have been spent but yet the rakyat don't get proper water supply," said Zamil.
Former mentri besar Khalid revealed on Nov 5 that the state government had offered RM2.94 billion for Splash – almost 11 times higher than the sum originally offered, RM250 million.
Azmin rebutted this and claimed that Khalid had already agreed on the (new) price. Azmin has alleged that when Khalid was the mentri besar (between 2008 and 2014), Khalid made Splash an offer of RM2.975 billion to take over the equity of the company.
"We ask for MACC to call the both of them for questioning," added Zamil.
Zamil and the other NGO's had also sent in a classified document to MACC on the Splash deal to aid in their investigations and lodged a report with the commission today.
