ALOR STAR: The Kedah Football Association (KFA) will raise the price of tickets for matches at Darul Aman Stadium from next year, the state assembly was told today.
State Exco member for Sports, Datuk Aminuddin Omar said the KFA Executive Committee agreed that the price increase would be made according to the current situation and would not burden football fans.
"Ticket prices of RM10, RM16 and RM22 at Darul Aman Stadium are the cheapest in the world," he said, when replying to a supplementary question from Mahadzir Abdul Hamid (BN-Jeneri).
The KFA was mulling to raise the online ticket quota for certain matches but must consider factors including transparency since fans of opposing teams could monopolise the purchase of tickets.
"In addition, Darul Aman Stadium only has a capacity of 25,000 seats. We must also consider the lack of broadband internet in rural areas," said Aminuddin who is also the KFA secretary.
Earlier, Aminuddin told Mahadzir that the 2016 football season saw some 312,710 tickets issued involving 20 matches at Darul Aman Stadium, comprising Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup matches.
Replying to Mohd Azam Abdul Samat (PAS-Sungai Limau), he said the state government has no plans to expand the capacity of Darul Aman Stadium as the focus is on upgrading the floodlights.
"The Football Association of Malaysia rules say that the floodlights must be 1,400 lux compared to 1,200 lux. We have to upgrade by lighting up eight spots on the field."
Aminuddin said the spectators average only 15,000 per match compared to the 25,000 capacity of Darul Aman Stadium. – Bernama
