SANDAKAN: Four-hundred illegal Filipino immigrants were today repatriated through the port of Sandakan to Zamboanga, the Philippines.
Sabah National Security Council director Datuk Rodzi Md Saad said the repatriation exercise began at 6pm using the vessel MV Lady Mary Joy 3.
He said it involved illegal immigrants, aged between one and 60, who were detained at the Sandakan Temporary Detention Centre.
"These efforts demonstrate the government's seriousness in addressing the problem of illegal immigrants in the country," he said in a statement.
He said the repatriation exercise was delayed for more than a month because the vessel MV Danica Joy 2 which was scheduled to be used for the repatriation, sank in the port of Zamboanga on Sept 22. — Bernama
