KUALA LUMPUR: Citizens have freedom of assembly and also the freedom to choose not to, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"Freedom doesn't mean that we have to use that freedom. We must know the consequences of our actions. Don't just, for the sake of freedom, we do it and in the end it causes problems.
"When the police issue a warning, surely they sense something will happen," Ismail Sabri told reporters after attending a Mara engagement programme with Bumiputra entrepreneurs held at the Premiera Hotel here.
He said incidences in the run-up to the rally showed that there could be potential clashes between the Bersih group and the Red Shirts movement come Saturday.
Ismail Sabri said he agreed with Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar's warning that action will be taken against anyone who breaks the law.
Khalid on Tuesday said the Police will not hesitate to use tear gas and water cannons against unruly protesters during the rally.
He added that police are well prepared and will do whatever is necessary under the law to prevent "ugly incidents".
