Overall STPM CGPA improved since rebranding of Sixth Form education

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) has improved since the rebranding of Sixth Form education in 2012, says Education Deputy Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan.
He said the CGPA upward trend could be seen through four consecutive years when the CGPA in 2012 was 2.33, followed by 2.54 (2013); 2.62 (2014) and 2.65 (2015).
"This proves that the Sixth Form education re-branding exercise had succeeded in improving quality and learning," he said in reply to Budiman Mohd Zohdi (BN-Sungai Besar) in the Dewan Rakyat here today.
Budiman had wanted to know the positive outcome of Sixth Form education rebranding.
Kamalanathan said the STPM certificate was also recognised by the Cambridge University, United Kingdom and the Public Service Department (JPA), giving students access to further studies at higher level.
"What's more encouraging, with the STPM students accepted for admission at Commonwealth universities such as Cambridge University, Oxford University, University of Auckland and other major universities," he said.
In addition, Kamalanathan said the number of students registering for Form Six had also increased to 57,485 this year as compared to 51,276 last year.
He said the number of students who dropped out from Sixth Form also decreased by 1.35 per cent for the 2014/2015 cohort as compared to the 2013/2014 cohort. — Bernama
