THE reputation of Heriot Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) and the flexibility that its Edinburgh Business School Master of Business programme offers were points that caught Freddy Ong Sin Woon’s attention and got him signing up for.
PROGRESS AND ADVANCEMENT
Ong, a former Shell Business Operations credit analyst, was looking for a career change that would help him realise his ambitions.
“We often hear that we should follow our passion and never give up on our dreams and while persistence and a positive outlook are important, having tunnel vision can mean missing out on all kinds of opportunities that may propel us further in our careers,” shared Ong.
In Sept 2013, Ong began reading his MBA part-time at the HWUM campus in Putrajaya. Classes were carried out at the weekends. When Ong had completed seven out of the nine MBA subjects, he secured a position as a senior finance analyst at Intel Microelectronics.
“The Edinburgh Business School MBA helps open us up to various job functions by the subjects taught, the case studies, and expertise from the lecturers and students from different industries, job functions and backgrounds,” said Ong.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Ong also stated that he felt the MBA helped him secure the position because it gave him a broader perspective about the business world, how the economy works and how the industry transpires. “Now, I have a new appreciation for other points of view and how those perspectives fit into various business scenarios.”
The Edinburgh Business School MBA programme is delivered by top UK and Asian faculty at HWUM. The programme was introduced in 2013 and is approved by the Higher Education Ministry. It is fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and the Royal Charter in the UK.
Head over to HWUM Putrajaya this Saturday, Nov 19 at 10.30 am to learn more about the programmes and January 2017 intake.
