ISKANDAR PUTRI: The Johor State Government received some RM1 million on Road Charge (RC) following its implementation on Nov 1.
Stating this at the Johor State Assembly, State Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad said they, however, were seeing less cars coming in from Singapore after he RC was imposed.
"There was a 10% drop in Singapore-registered cars coming in during the first week of the month," he added.
During the second week, he said, more cars started coming in.
"Its back to normal. It could be due to the school holidays in Singapore and the weakening of the Ringgit," said Hasni.
For the first two weeks of the month, he said the RC collection was about RM1 million.
Johor State Government is entitled to get 25% or RM5 for the RC charge of RM25 each foreign-registered car coming to Johor through the Causeway in Johor Baru and Second Link in Gelang Patah.
He said if an estimated 200,000 foreign registered cars enter the state daily, then Johor will get its share of about RM40 million in 2017.
It was reported that the transport ministry will collect RM144 million a year from foreign registered vehicles via its RC (RC) system at the Malaysia-Singapore border.
The RC charge is paid through Touch n Go electronic payment card at passport checking booth.
