Eleven from SK Bukit Rahman Putra scored straight A’s in UPSR and five in PASR

SUNGAI BULOH: Eleven students of SK Bukit Rahman Putra made their school proud by scoring straight A's in the UPSR examinations.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid who visited the school today said the drop in students scoring straight A's in the 2016 UPSR examination should not be construed as bad as holistically the students did well under the new format introduced this year.
"We should not compare this year's results with that of last year as the formats were different. This year examination actually required the students to think critically and fully understand the question before answering instead of the usual memorising their notes and given multiple choice answers," he said.
He who handed the 11 UPSR and five Penilaian Alternatif Sekolah Rendah (PASR) students who scored straight A's their result slips said parents should be proud of their children's achievements as learning from now on would more likely focus on cultivating the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS).
Meanwhile in GEORGE TOWN : It was a day of joy for two boys from Penang Chinese Girls Primary School (PCGPS) ,Chin Li Ren and Christopher Teh both 12 ,when they scored straight As in the UPSR.
They were among the 15 students who scored straight A's and made their school top in the state.
Chin told theSun that he was happy with the result and his hardwork of studying every day paid off and hoped to do better in future exams.
Chin's mother Foo Li Lin, 48 a company general manager said her son was a well balance student and was academically good.
"I am so proud of my son. I must thank his teachers without whom he would not have scored the straight A's," she added.
Meanwhile Christopher Teh who usually do not perform well in school exams was shocked at his result.
"I have never scored straight As and I am so happy," he said.
Chin and Christopher were thorn among the roses from PCGPS in Jalan Gottlieb who scored straight As in UPSR examination.
A total of 251 students of PCGPS took UPSR exam this year.
Meanwhile Penang Education Department Deputy Director Mohd Jamil Mohamed said this year 399 students scored straights As (6A/8A) in the UPSR examination compared to 2430 students in 2015.
PCGPS emerged as the top school in the state with overall 97.61 passes and 1.95 GPS followed by SK Taman Senangan with 91.11 overall passes and 2.14 GPS.
