Cops detain local businessman involved in international drug ring in Miri
MIRI: Police believe they have crippled an international drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of a local businessman at 1.15pm yesterday.
Miri police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the suspect was arrested at his home in Tanjung Lobang where various types of drugs worth RM103,200 and cash of RM9,000 were found and seized.
"The drugs were found hidden mostly in powdered soy drink boxes, cigarette boxes and in his car," he told a press conference here today.
Among the drugs seized were ecstasy pills, Eramin 5 pills, 8gm of syabu, a packet of ketamin and two packets of ganja weighing 1.7kg.
Khoo said the suspect, in his early 20s, was believed to have been active in trafficking and distributing drugs to local and overseas markets over the past eight months.
He said the modus operandi used by the suspect was to get the buyer to call him and state their preferred type of drugs.
The suspect was also tested positive for amphetamine, he said, adding that the illicit activity of the syndicate was crippled with the help of the public and cooperation from the Brunei Police. — Bernama
